Free stuff for my Alaska friends

Hello my sweet Rabbit Creek friends. There are some things that I would rather give to you than sell or donate. Just let me know if any of these would work for you and I'll put your name on it. I'll keep posting new items as I sort through and pack stuff so check back every few days. My shipping containers arrive on May 27 so I'll have to rid myself of the extra stuff by the weekend of May 29th .

*sold*Polymer Clay (Fimo) kit. Has a lot of new packages, and carving tools along with a pasta roller/press that is just for clay not food.

*sold*Sewing machine. I bought a new one because the bobbin winder on this one needed repair. Works just fine otherwise.

*sold*Keurig and pods (assorted cocoa, spiced cider, acia berry)

*sold*Soda Stream, bottles and drink mix. Some bottles of mix are paritally used, but hey, you know me. The cartridges are empty (I think) but refillable.

*sold*Enamel dutch oven. Well loved and used to cook the BEST chili ever. Maybe this will bring you luck too. I have gotten the bottom stains out before so I know it's possible, just don't want to take the time now.

That's it for now. Check back later for more.

(you guys are awesome! That was fast!)

He died doing what he loved

In some sad news recently in Utah State there have been 3 recent BASE jumping deaths in their famous southern Zion National Park. If you aren’t aware what Base jumping is, it is a sport where you jump off with a parachute from different tall structures. The acronym comes from B for building, A for antennae, S for span, and E for earth.

Basically it’s finding the tallest places all over the world, climbing up to the top and jumping off. Kind of like when you were a kid and playing Superman off the couch or the top of your bunk bed. A lot of base jumpers play it legal and only jump in places that they have permission to, but many get a thrill of doing jumps from buildings and parks where they know it’s not allowed. You can get a bit of attention if you successfully climb and jump off a popular or famous place like the Eiffel Tower or the Empire State Building.  Base jumping is illegal in Zion’s National Park.

I get it, it’s a thrill, an adrenalin rush to evade the authorities and be somewhere you aren’t allowed then the thrill of doing the jump, having your buddy film it with his camera and post the video online. You can then relive your death defying moves over and over, while getting a little public notoriety among your peers or the public. It’s risky. They know it. It’s part of the adventure and for some people it’s addicting. I’ve never really understood it because I don’t enjoy the feeling of panic and fear. The adrenalin addiction for some people, though, has actually been studied as an actual, you know…..addiction.

One person who died was on her honeymoon, just a couple weeks after her wedding. A whole life ahead of them now cut short. Another was a well-known jumper among those who do the sport, and his wife was pregnant, expecting their first child. The friend of the other man who died told the reporter that he had 5 of his friends who had died in the last year also from base jumping accidents but that "he will continue to pursue the sport he loves"

As I read thru a few notes on the comments section it was said that it was comforting to know “he died doing what he loved”.

Hmmm. Well, you see, I have a bit of a problem with that. Now I might upset a few people if you really really love getting a personal thrill at risking your life for the sake of your recreation.

I find it incredibly selfish.

It is selfish on so many, many levels. That comfort will be pretty hollow for that mother when her baby comes into the world and he isn’t there to share that moment with his wife. That comfort won’t help the parents of the young woman now left with only memories of a life cut short. Losing a child is the biggest hurt, I’ve been told. So, yes it’s a selfish sport. The price they paid for adrenalin was pretty big.

Now while I don’t think you need to sit back and wrap yourself in bubble wrap for the rest of eternity, there are some sports that are entirely developed to defy death and attain that adrenalin rush. So sure, go out and have fun. Push yourself a little. Live life to the fullest.

But, if I die “doing what I love” it’s not going to be alone with a parachute jumping off something big. What I love is my family: My kids, my grandkids, my husband, my siblings and parents, my friends. If I die “doing what I love” and what really matters, it's going to be helping others and making a difference in someone’s life.  If I go out in the middle of baking a big ‘ol pie for someone I love, I will have died “doing what I love”. If I die caring for my parents or speeding to get to my grandbabies birth, I will have “died doing what I love”.

So what is it that you would be doing if you “die doing what you love”?

Dear Ken

Dear Ken,

Today I learned of your passing; passing from this earthly physical life into the spirit world. I learned of the news through a newspaper article. “Charges dismissed after accused sex offender dies in jail” was the headline with which you left this life and your picture posted underneath. Not just any picture but your police mugshot and not a very attractive one at that. For those who didn’t know you, this would be merely another news story of passing gawking interest. A scandalous appearing headline with a picture of a man who most people reading the attached story would instantly judge as true by your looks. The hard gaze with a few wisps of hair that you had remaining as the years advanced along with your declining health. It makes me a bit sad that most people will only remember you through this photo. They won’t ever see your smile. Even through my lingering anger at what you did, I can’t help but also be sad for that.

Since that day where you were arrested at our clinic I have occasionally scanned the papers looking for information of the details of your trials. Every few weeks I felt the compelling need to pull up the stories there in Utah and scan the headlines to find out what your status was. When you had more shocking charges brought against you, in one way it was another relief. I learned you had hurt others around you in horrible ways. Each news article I read, I hoped that you remained in prison so that I could know my family was safe from any possible retaliation from you. I couldn’t trust that you wouldn’t try to hurt anyone else. With every trial delay I could know you would still be behind bars and my family was safe.

I knew you were not physically very well when you went to prison the first day and somehow I always knew that you would probably not last long with the stresses of prison life. I hope it gave you the structure that you needed. I hope it gave you the freedom from some of your demons. I hope you still had a few happy days. I hope that you were not in pain.

I have struggled with working on forgiving you for the betrayal of the friendship and kindness that was offered to you. You had been treated with so much kindness and love. David saw a broken and hurting soul. You had lived such a painful life. Your childhood was hard and without a family to love you, to give you kindness and show you how to be a good person. You craved a family so badly that you saw somehow a mother figure in me and used to call me “mom”. You had so many terrible terrible things happen to you growing up. I think you learned that you could use your wild outrageous stories to hide behind. Most people knew they were imaginations, but you told them so often and with such flare that I think they started to become real in your mind. David so enjoyed your quirkiness and your wild stories. I think that it was part of the payback he got caring for you. You always made him laugh. He felt like he could really make a difference in your life. David saw that there really was nowhere else that you could have turned for help. He truly wanted to help heal you physically and then emotionally by giving you some balance in your life. Maybe he saw it as a sort of lifeline for you to reach out to reality and regain a better way of living. He tried to help you reconnect with those you loved who helped raise you. He was able to contact the sweet nun at the orphanage. You cried. I think you were sincerely touched. He helped you find your extended heritage. We helped you in so many things.

You were so broken though. We could all see that you were one of the barely functioning people of this society. You were able to care for yourself but still not be completely whole. As a result you were one of those who would fall through the cracks of this world. Too high functioning for society to care for and too broken to really live a life without major difficulties. David saw your loneliness and your potential.

All of that care and kindness was instead returned with a day that could have had led to the deaths of several people whom I love. When I think of what you might have done in just only a few seconds of time. Your gun that day was loaded and ready to use. I know those around you that day were intended to be there just at the right time to quickly disarm you. I know you were in pain both emotionally and physically but you had no right to place my loved ones in such danger. I’m angry at you for that. How could you?! How dare you?! It was such a betrayal. It crushed something in David. I can see it when we talk about what happened. A part of him that had reached out in kindness was returned with an action that could have been so devastating. He doesn’t ever want to again expose those he loves to something that could potentially hurt them by bringing in someone who is broken. So he keeps a bit of distance now. I can see he feels failure that he couldn’t save you from yourself. I see how sad that makes him. He tries to hide it but I still see it.

Even tonight I see the impact and sadness you leave on my husband. I brought the story to him tonight so he could see and have closure of your earthly story. I can tell it disturbed him. He tried to focus on a tv show only to turn it off after five minutes and quietly go in and lay down for some sleep instead. My sweet David has a default setting in his heart of seeing the good in people. He just wants to fix the physical and emotional pains that he sees. This has always given him a reason and purpose for being in this world. When he was younger he just wanted everyone to get along and be kind to each other. He sought out the wallflowers at dances and made friends with everyone. My wise dad figured it out when he called him “a fixer”. We couldn’t fix you Ken. I’m sorry we couldn’t help you in the way you needed. I hope you have more clarity and peace now that the worldly pressures are no longer there for you. I hope your troubled mind is at peace. I’m thankful that others you hurt were saved more pain now that they don’t have to relive those things in the court trial.

I’ll keep working on getting that complete resolve in my heart with forgiveness. Sometimes forgiveness is not always merely forgetting. We are our experiences. They help to mold us just as your experiences shaped your life.  I’m pretty sure you have a bit of sorrow and pain to repay for your earthly sins. That’s Christ’s job though as it is for mine too. Now that you are gone, I can move on with more closure.

Thanksgiving 2013

I haven’t done the month of being thankful as I have seen some of my friends doing on Facebook this year. I appreciate their daily wisdom yet somehow this year my feelings of thanksgiving run a little too deep to join them on Facebook this year. It’s just a bit too emotional for me this year so I thought that I would write it on this page instead this time. It’s been quite a year with struggles and trials and I've come to more fully understand and appreciate many things that have happened to me in my life thus far, so here is what I am thankful for.

I am thankful for the pains and the struggles of my arthritis. It has taught me to savor the moments of feeling normal. It has taught me to ask for help and allow others to help me. It has taught me patience. It has taught me compassion and understanding for others with pain and disability. It has taught me to more fully appreciate the physical abilities that I do have.

I am thankful for the periods of financial difficulties. It has taught me to be a better steward of the things I have. It has taught me to notice the beauty around me that is free to all. It has taught me to be a more grateful giver. It has taught me to be more humble. It has shown that I could work harder when I thought I couldn’t. It has taught me to rely more on the Lord’s help and guidance. It has brought me closer to my family as I relied on them for help.

I am thankful for my broken marriage. It gave me 4 beautiful children. It taught me a greater understanding of my own strength. It taught me that the Lord is in charge of my life and allowed me to see that he had a greater plan in store for my life. It taught me how to be a better wife and mother. It taught me that what others thought of me didn’t matter.  It didn’t change who I knew myself to be. It taught me how to forgive.

I’m thankful for my brush with cancer. It taught me that the Lord is there whispering in my ear things that I need to hear if I am willing to listen. It showed me the compassion of sweet friends and how much I am loved. It taught me that the Lords timing is perfect because He has the big picture of my life. It taught me to slow down and be still sometimes.

I am thankful for hard and difficult trials, for times when I am pushed seemingly passed my limits to bear because it teaches me to call upon the Lord for help and guidance. It teaches me that when I reach the end of my strength, He is there to help me make it through. It teaches me that I’m not alone and that there are angels around us both in this world and passed on to the other side.

Tyranny and the IRS

Definition of TYRANNY

1: oppressive power  tyranny over the mind of man — Thomas Jefferson>; especially : oppressive power exerted by government  tyranny of a police state>

2a : a government in which absolute power is vested in a single ruler; especially : one characteristic of an ancient Greek city-state
b : the office, authority, and administration of a tyrant

3: a rigorous condition imposed by some outside agency or force  tyranny of the clock — Dixon Wecter>

4: an oppressive, harsh, or unjust act : a tyrannical act tyrannies>

tyr·an·ny

  [tir-uh-nee]

noun, plural tyr·an·nies.

1.arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power;despotic abuse of authority. Synonyms:despotism, absolutism, dictatorship.

2.the government or rule of a tyrant or absoluteruler.

3.a state ruled by a tyrant or absolute ruler.

4.oppressive or unjustly severe government onthe part of any ruler.

5.undue severity or harshness.

Obama’s remarks this week at a graduation ceremony:

“They'll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self rule is somehow just a sham with which we can't be trusted."

This is such a twist on the truth that encapsulates the left and their ideology. It is specifically the watchful eye keeping tyranny at bay which allows our brave and creative and unique experiment in self rule to succeed! The oppressive strong arm of any government entity such as the IRS which we have now absolute proof of unjustly targeting peaceful peoples is tyranny in it’s true form.

Tyranny is an old word for a concept that crosses all generations, all borders, and all forms of government types. It is not some old fashioned concept or a conspiracy theory. The trouble with being too entrenched inside Washington DC is that your vision is warped as to the examples of tyranny happening inside our own government. Obama can’t see the tyranny because he sees an expansive and obtrusive government as necessary to fulfill his wish list.

Yes, tyranny is lurking just around the corner. It is absolutely happening in government agencies of the United States. It exists in the IRS, some police departments, and the department of homeland security, just to name a few. All it takes is for citizens to become complacent or to think that it can’t happen here. It can, it has, and it will continue to erode our brave and creative and unique experiment of self rule.

It isn’t the people who can’t be trusted, it is the government agencies to whom we give up our freedoms. This is why the latest scandals are more than merely scandals. A politician who is caught in a tryst with a young woman is a scandal. The IRS targeting private citizens is a tyrannical government which must be placed back in check by the people in charge…..the people of the United States of America.

Lost

I lost something this year and I don't know if I will ever find it again. It's something that I always had with me from the time I was young. I enjoyed it a lot and sometimes shared it with others especially around Christmas time. It made me happy to share it. Other people seemed to like that I shared this with them. I'm not sure where it went but I know when I lost it. It disappeared during my hospital visits in March. I thought it would come back to me on it's own, but now it seems that it has been gone for so long that I think that it may never come back home to me.

Have you seen my beautiful soprano singing voice anywhere? I miss it so very much.

During Christmas time it's been especially hard not to be able to sing. We had some really beautiful musical solos during church today. One was a sweet little 11 year old girl in a dark burgundy Christmas dress singing a song about Mary's lullaby. She was adorable, and confident, and on key, and had a sweet angelic voice. Her papa sat in front of us and you could just feel the swell of pride around him.

I used to be one of those musical solos.

I have really no excuse to complain since I have been given so much in return for the cost of my voice. The trade off in so many wonderful sweet experiences this year is a bargain in comparison. Still I wonder if that was my deal with Heavenly Father. He would give me more years on this earth and sweet spiritual experiences, but I would have to trade in my singing voice.

I had an experience while sitting in a Relief Society meeting soon after my surgery. They were singing an opening hymn, while I sat there unable to join in.... reading the words instead. It was a song I had sung many times so I paid little attention.

Then came the second verse and I couldn't hold in the tears.

2. There is music in my soul today,
A carol to my King,
And Jesus listening can hear
The songs I cannot sing.

No one else around me had a clue why I kept wiping away the tears but that day I needed to know that my songs are still there even if they are only in my heart right now. It's one of those experiences that remind me that Heavenly Father knows me. It was one of those hugs from heaven.

My voice was a part of me. It was a part of who I am. I miss singing. I miss even my regular speaking voice. If you happen to see it wandering about, please tell it to come home.

Why

I don’t usually have the television on in the mornings, but on the morning of Friday December 14th I just happen to turn on the news to see what was happening in the world.  What I got was a horrific accounting as bits and pieces came together that retold the events of a very troubled and violent young man slaughtering a classroom of innocent little children. Since that day we all have seen many outpourings of concern, prayers, thoughts, condolences, and a bit of blame throwing in the mix as well. Some say it’s the availability of guns. Some say it’s the mental health crisis in America. Some say it’s a lack of security in the schools. Some say it’s the removal of anything referring to God in our schools. Some say it’s the glorification of violence in Hollywood. Maybe it’s a combination of a bit of all those things but I think it’s more than that.

I read the Facebook posts that are “shared” spreading exponentially till they reach thousands. I’m sure they help to soothe some people with their sweet words how these little angels are with Jesus, and how the hero courageously acted in the face of imminent death. Some of the posts defiantly defend the constitutional rights to gun ownership while others lament that we all need to accept outlawing all guns. I’m not sure why for me all this talk seems so hollow. Posting a sweet picture of Christ with some children isn't going to help the parents whose 6 year old was shot and killed mend their hearts. Please don’t take offense if you are sharing those posts yourself. They are sweet reminders of goodness. I myself have posted a couple too but it still seems like putting a Band-Aid on a gaping wound.

For me I write about it. That's my way of coping. It is to get my thoughts down in words so they no longer keep me awake in the middle of the night.

I've not lost a child but I have friends who have. I have seen firsthand the hurt, the devastation and the toll it takes on a mother to have their hopes, their futures taken away from them in an instant. There will be no prom pictures. There will be no walking down the aisle with a beautiful bride. There will be no grandchildren to laugh with. It’s a pain which never really goes away.....ever. At any minute of any day a small thing can remind them of what they once had and is now gone. My faith and my knowledge of the eternal nature of our lives helps me to know that these parents will see their little ones again. Still, that doesn’t give them back what they lost.

I think that this event has been harder for people in America especially because it happened so close to Christmas. Christmas is a holiday that is fashioned around little kids. We can all understand and empathize with the pain that will still be so fresh for these families on Christmas. The sting and the shock will be raw this year. Perhaps they had presents already tucked under the tree that now will go unopened.
So all the Facebook, twitter, and email posts are sweet and they help the rest of us deal with a really horrible event but I doubt they really help the families there in Connecticut. Only those who are close family and friends of these people will really help much. So what do we do? The flock of people screaming for banning guns or at least all automatic weapons will feel like they are doing the right thing. The thing is, there are people every day killed all over the country and we go on with our lives like nothing happened. There are little innocent children killed every single day. In fact there are averaging 5 who die from abuse every single day! That’s 1825 deaths a year!

You can see the stats Here

Why are these deaths different? Maybe because it makes us feel a lot more vulnerable. They were supposed to be in a safe place.....a school with security measures!  If they weren't safe it makes us all feel a little less assured of our safety too. It wasn't the guns that made this tragedy anymore than my fork made me fat and doing the knee jerk action of banning them won’t solve the problems that caused it. All it will do is make some people “feel” better because they have done something! They will have also eroded the rights of millions of people to defend themselves. That’s not a good result. So if I were queen of America here is what I would decree:

1. Put limits on violent content in media. By this I mean movies and video games. How on earth can people not see that young men are spending hours upon hours “training” themselves to be sharp shooters with first person violent games or watching the hundreds of violent acts so realistically portrayed by our movie industry? I have young men of my own. I have seen what is called entertainment. It’s exciting to gun down the other side and rack up points and move on to the next level. But some of these games are so extremely gory and bloody violent that it does lead kids to be so desensitized and start acting out violently. We have to stop ignoring this and protecting this stupid notion that these violent games are a protected speech. We are systematically destroying our children’s minds all for the sake of entertainment and money. And I’m sorry Mr. Tarantino but yes, your movies are trash! The amount of fake blood used does not determine whether it’s a good movie.

2. Let’s have a real and productive conversation about mental health in this country. Anyone who has a family member with mental health problems understands that the way we treat this problem is a joke. It is devastating to loved ones financially, emotionally and many times physically. It’s not a problem that is going away. It’s not something to be ashamed about. It’s not something that you just treat once and get better from. It’s a real, life long process with ongoing care. It’s a lot easier to have compassion and reach out to people who get cancer or get in a car wreck. We have to stop looking the other way and help each other. If you know of someone in this struggle, do what you can to offer a bit more support and help in their lives.

3. Bring fathers back into the home. Let’s start building a better country from the bottom up. This means better families. Parents who do their job are the best way to build a better future for our kids. We need to start glorifying good stable families with two parents. Boys need their fathers to show them how to become good men. Girls need their fathers too. It’s time to stop having babies outside of marriage. Women, it’s time to start saying no until they say “I do”. Then work really hard to build a good marriage.

It’s a week before Christmas. Hold your sweet ones near. Remember your blessings. Give a bit of yourself to someone else. That’s what Christmas is. Thanks for listening.

I hate cleaning the toilet just a bit less today.

I HATE cleaning the bathroom. I would rather do 12 loads of dishes and 12 loads of laundry rather than clean the bathroom. In my quest to find the easiest, fastest and least nasty way to get this job done I

Recently bought this:

Love them! No more nasty scrub brush sitting next to the toilet. The cleaning soap is already inside the scrubber. Just pop it on, wipe a few times around all the spots inside the bowl and click the button to toss it in the garbage. TaDA!! Done!

Today after cleaning my toilet bowl of course the next duty is to clean around the bowl, the edges, the base the floor and all those really sneaky parts around the back. It's a contortion job for me and with my arthritis knees it hurts to kneel down and reach around all while I having to put my face right down in the toilet area. Yuck.

I looked at my new little gadget and thought, hmmmm, this isn't all that dirty after swishing around in the bowl for a minute or two and after flushing it with the clean water I should use this again before I throw it away. (thanks to my mom who instilled in me to always "use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without")

Introducing my latest toilet cleaning trick>

This is what the cleaning wand looks like. It  is pre-loaded with blue cleaner in the middle. After it’s done it’s job cleaning the bowl it’s still not very dirty so give it a second job before tossing it.

You will need a small binder clip and a disposable cleaning cloth

Lay the cloth over the scrubber and push the binder clip over the edge

Now you have a two part cleaning device ready to go. You can layer two wipes if you have a dirtier than usual job.

Now you can either mop with the wipe or use the scrubber too

Save the Binder clip on the edge of the lid for next time.

Wishing you days filled with a bit less time cleaning the bathroom.
You are welcome!

Stop the h8 of religion.

Please join me in writing to the Adams Outdoor advertising company.

Adams Outdoor Contact info Here

It will do no good to appeal to the AAI group as this is the publicity they desired. Here is a copy of my letter I already sent:

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my sincere disappointment at your company's willingness to post the seriously offensive material from the group "American Atheist Incorporated". These billboard ads were composed with the intention to provoke publicity for their cause through use of bigoted hate and the degradation of people of faith and the things they hold sacred in their lives. I understand the rights of this hateful group to express their views, but I feel that it is the duty of your company to not stand behind and allow this kind of hate being propagated. In profiting from these very insulting and hate filled billboard postings you have sullied your company name as it is posted freely attached to the bottom of these signs thereby giving the appearance that you approve of this material. As Americans we should all strive to rise above such base and hurtful behavior. Just as you would never allow a racist posting from the KKK or promotion of child pornography there are standards of tolerance in our country that all Americans should live up to. I and many others like me feel that this kind of hurtful language towards religious minded people should not be tolerated either.

I respectfully ask that you please consider the removal of these billboards. Please consider the multitudes of people who will have to endure the angst of viewing these on a daily basis, including I'm sure those of your own family, friends and co-workers. Please consider the harm you are inflicting on your company by dragging it's name down to the level of groups such as "American Atheist Incorporate" who feel the only way to accomplish their goals is through offensive material.

Thank you for reading my message.
